Are Thrombotic superficial phlebitis(STP)Also a kind of venous thrombosis?

Superficial thrombophlebitis (STP), also known as superficial vein thrombosis, is an inflammatory reaction in the lumen of the superficial vein, accompanied by thrombosis. Epidemiological data show that the incidence of STP is about 3% to 11% [1]. The disease is more common in women. The ratio of male to female is about 4:6. The average age of the patient is about 60 years old. The disease has obvious seasonality and the highest incidence in summer.

1.Where the thrombus occurred

It often occurs in the large and small saphenous veins and their branches, followed by the cephalic vein and the expensive vein of the upper limbs. A small number of patients have migratory seizures, one after another, alternating in many places in the human body.

  1. Clinical symptoms

    Redness, swelling, and burning along the superficial veins, palpable painful cords or beaded nodules, obvious pain and tenderness, after the acute phase, the cords become hard, and local skin pigmentation remains .

    3 Symptomatic treatment

    ⑴ Symptomatically relieve pain caused by inflammation

    Including elevating the affected limb, applying heat or ice, oral or external application of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, external application of polysulfonic mucopolysaccharide and other measures.

    ⑵ Treat STP and prevent VTE

    The “ACCP 2012 Guidelines for Venous Thromboembolism Antithrombotic Treatment” recommends:

    · For STP patients with lower extremity lesions exceeding 5 cm, it is better to use preventive doses of low-molecular-weight heparin than not to use anticoagulant drugs;

    · For other high-risk factors such as lesions invading the saphenous femoral vein junction, lesions occurring in the saphenous vein, pain and other severe symptoms, recent surgery, cancer patients, SVT recurrence, and recent history of VTE, anticoagulation therapy is recommended. The prophylactic dose is usually 4 to 6 weeks.
